I bought this chair for my 90 year old wife, who took to it with some doubts, but with a few months' use, she's in love with this thing. She's gotten quite skilled at driving it, after numerous concerts, a 10 day cruise, several flights, and daily use around town. I'm attached to it too: it really does weight just 26 pounds, and I can load it and unload it from the car trunk as easily as I loaded her walker for years. I resisted getting her into a wheelchair, partly because I knew at my age I would struggle with the usual chairs weighing 50 pounds and more. For us old guys this chair is a miracle. It may not hold up like a heavy chair, but so far so good. If it does fail eventually I'll just buy her another one. It's that good.

For a recent 84 y.o.high hip amputee this little jewell has significantly improved my previously very restricted mobility choices. At its 27lbs weight I can easily lift it into my Toyota Sienna and park it behind the driver seat. It folds and unfolds easily and allows me access to any hard surface venue. It handles uphill drives to my mail box easily and it handles tight spaces with aplomb. Its design is elegant yet sturdy. Expensive but worth it!

I bought this for my wife. She can walk a little but not very far. We had another buggy that weighed over 100 lbs. The FAA changed rules, and we ended up missing a flight because of it. We had to catch a later flight causing us to miss a day of condo time. It was also time consuming to take apart and put back together. The Air Elite is great. Just got back from a trip to the big island of Hawaii. My wife drove it right up to the door of the plane, I pulled the battery with ease, and it was waiting for us as we got off the plane. Very quick and easy to put in and take out of our rental car. There has been a bit of a learning curve for my wife to learn how to drive, but not too bad. I also like how she can drive into an elevator then do a quick 180 and drive back out. Very highly recommend.

I absolutely love it. It has given me the ability to go places, and see things I missed doing. I am restricted to a wheelchair because I'm walking bone on bone in each knee. I am able to use a rolerator for short walks, but that is pain full, and you are still bent over unable to see nothing but the ground. With my power chair the world has opened up to me. I'm able to talk to people, and look the in the eyes. I can look up and see the birds. I can enjoy all things going to Restaurants, movies the beach. All are open to me. The chair is so easy to use. Be careful putting it together. The instructions can be misleading. make sure you have unpacked everything. I couldn't find a screw that holds the hand control to the arm. Good thing I looked in the box. It was in some packaging material. It is worth every penny spent on it. I like to go out and do whirlies. It is definetly a 5 star product.

FAQs

The Journey Air Elite can be used just about anywhere, indoors and out. It can handle a number of different terrains such as grass, carpet, dirt and more.

Thanks to the Journey Air Elite's sleek design it will fit through all doorways with ease.

The Journey Air Elite is capable of carrying a person weighing up to 240 lbs.

The Journey Air Elite is available only in one size. See the Product Specifications section for specific dimensions. The maximum user weight limit is 240 lbs.

The Journey Air Elite is a one-handed, joystick-controlled chair. The joystick can even be installed on either side of the chair.

While many people use the Journey Air Elite Chair for many different reasons, the Journey Air Elite Chair is a personal electric vehicle. If you are fully restricted to a sitting position, the Journey Air Elite Chair may not be for you. You must be able to get in and out of the chair.

The Journey Air Elite Chair will require only a few simple steps out of the box before you can use it. Included is the battery, charger, footrests, anti-tippers and joystick.

Unfortunately, the Journey Air Elite Chair is not covered by Medicare at this time.

Accessories such as a cup/bottle holder, cane holder, extra thick seat cushion, spare batteries and spare tires are available.

Yes, the Journey Air Elite Chair will fit under a desk and table. All you have to do is flip up the armrests and slide right under.

Yes, and here are a few things you need to know before taking your Journey Air Elite Chair on a plane. Your Journey Air Elite Chair should qualify as free baggage with most airlines, but you can call your airline prior to your trip to make sure. You can ride your Journey Air Elite Chair all the way up to the gate and down the jetway. As you get to the end of the jetway, you will need to remove the Journey Air Elite Chair battery from the back of the chair, fold your Journey Air Elite Chair and hand it to a flight attendant to stow it under the plane. Take the battery on the plane with you to your seat. Be sure to contact your specific airline to ask for their procedures for transporting a battery-powered vehicle, and see your Journey Air Elite USA User Manual for more info. Here is a link to the FAA regulations regarding battery-powered chairs.More info

Yes, the Journey Air Elite Chair does have a powered reverse.

The Journey Air Elite Chair can be pushed about easily when there is no rider in it; however, it is not specifically intended that seated users be pushed around in wheelchair fashion by others as an alternative to the chair's foremost purpose: a powered self-driving experience. (If you wish to prevent your Journey Air Elite Chair from being pushed from behind, you simply lock it in place.)

The swinging footplate is not adjustable; however, the Journey Air Elite Chair is designed to accommodate people of a wide variety of sizes.

The seat and backrest are not adjustable. Some Journey Air Elite Chair owners with special comfort needs have chosen to add an additional cushion.

Customers that are close to the Journey Air Elite Chair's weight limit of 240 lbs may find that the Journey Air Elite Chair is a little more difficult to use on very thick or heavily padded carpet when operating on low speed. The solution is to simply increase your speed setting, thereby increasing the ability of the Journey Air Elite Chair to move around on these types of surfaces without significantly increasing speed.

Depending upon usage (speed, weight, etc.) the Journey Air Elite Chair's battery will last up to ten miles of use.

The short answer is it depends on the usage and conditions. The battery on average lasts for several years for many of our customers.

Charging the battery takes 6-8 hours or less depending on the level of power already used. With a range of up to ten miles, most owners rarely run the battery all the way down in a single day.

There is a battery indicator located on the control panel that tells you the battery life.

Yes, 29 pounds incudes the weight of the battery.

Yes. The charger will operate on on 100V or 220V, but you will need an inexpensive plug converter to fit the outlets of your foreign destination.

My experience with the Journey Air Elite

We've been on two cruises, visited 4 casinos and it has performed without any problems. I have probably sold 5 or more to people asking where I got it

I can put it behind the seats in the car or van, I can push my luggage and carry a back pack with ease.

    Misleading ads

Ads should not show pictures of elderly holding up the product then tell people not to do that. In small print that many elderly people have trouble reading with the small print. It would make some elderly people feel like they could do what the picture shows.

    One major issue

Having happily owned a Zoomer to use in my home for a year or so, I fully expected the Air Elite to be similar but lighter so better for travel. Much to my surprise, when you turn on the power button on the controller on the Air Elite, there is a "scare your dog half to death" "beep" similar to what you hear when you press the test button on your smoke detector! This is totally unnecessary as it does have lights indicating power level and speed as does the Zoomer (which only gives a slight clink when the brake engages and disengages and no other sounds except the soft hum of the motor). Since the recommendation is to turn off the power when exiting or entering the chair, someone didn't think about the places and times you might be turning on the chair, i.e. restaurants, church, hotel room, even your bedroom in the middle of the night! Customer service says there is no way to disable it like you can the backup beeper feature.
