Included with the UPbed Independence are two standard 9-volt batteries that will allow you to put the bed in a lay flat position in the event of a power outage. This is for emergency, one-time use only and will not operate the bed repeatedly.

The armrests act as bedrails in the flat position to help prevent falls. When standing, they provide sturdy support to hold onto. The padding is comfortable, and the textured fabric offers a secure grip. Armrests can be raised and locked upright for easier side access or removed entirely if not needed. They stay close for stability but move out of the way when you want more space.

Drape the top sheet and blanket over one of the armrests. Tuck them in slightly to keep them secure as the bed lifts. This keeps your legs and feet clear, so you can stand and walk away safely without tripping.

    Excellent purchase for spouse with Parkinson's disease.

    I am very impressed with the UPbed Independence because it is more than a bed and more than a chair. I purchased it for my husband who has progressive Parkinson's disease. He has been spending his nights and days on a lift chair, but he needs to be able to turn on his side or back prevent bed sores.

    The head of UPbed can be raised and the foot can be adjusted for comfort similar to a hospital bed. But better than that, UPbed can become a lift chair that swivels left or right and rises up and reclines like his lift chair. The UPbed frame is made well and very sturdy. The mattress is comfortable, not soft and not too hard. It's definitely worth the price.
