I purchased this bed for my mom who suffers from dementia. I wasn't sure if it would help her, but I was desperate. Her dementia prevented her from laying in a traditional bed. Being on a flat bed caused her to yell uncontrollably and pull out her hair. She would only sleep in a recliner put in the sitting upright position, which caused her legs to swell and to get very hard. She would also slide off the recliner if not monitored very closely. I got her a hospital bed, but that didn't work. On a whim, I googled sleep to stand beds. I wasn't sure if something like this even existed. My hope was to find a bed that worked like a recliner. I needed something that could allow her feet to touch the ground with the touch of a button, as that position was the only thing that appeared to calm her when her behavior was erratic. I also needed something that would allow her to elevate her legs so the swelling and hardness that developed from sleeping in a sitting position would go down. I have now had the bed for about two and a half months. The bed has contributed immensely to her quality of life. The swellling and hardness that developed from sleeping upright in her recliner has all but disappeared. When I sense that she is uncomfortable when her legs are elevated, I change the bed to a sitting upright position and that usually helps to calm her. I'm glad I took a chance and purchased the bed.
