Is the Journey UPbed Standard a medical device? + -

The Journey UPbed Standard is FDA cleared, but it is a wellness and independence product rather than a hospital bed. It's designed for everyday home use to support comfortable sleep, easy positioning, and confident sit-to-stand transitions.

The UPbed Standard transitions between four distinct positions at the touch of a button: flat (for sleeping), sit-up (for reading or watching TV), chair (for relaxed lounging), and lift (for effortless sit-to-stand transitions). The intuitive remote control lets you customize each position for maximum comfort.

The UPbed Standard uses a forward-lift mechanism that smoothly raises and tilts the bed surface, gently assisting you from a lying position to a standing position. Padded side arms add extra security throughout the transition, helping prevent falls and giving caregivers peace of mind.

Yes. The UPbed Standard's motorized lift function is specifically designed to help users get in and out of bed independently. Many users who previously required caregiver assistance for bed transitions are able to handle them on their own with the UPbed.

The Journey UPbed Standard has a weight capacity of up to 600 lbs, supported by an aircraft-grade motorized frame.

The Journey UPbed Standard is available in Twin and Twin XL sizes.

The UPbed Standard Twin and Twin XL are identical in features, motor function, weight capacity, and 4-in-1 adjustability — the only difference is bed length. The Twin measures 75 inches long, while the Twin XL adds an extra 5 inches for a total length of 80 inches. The Twin XL is the better choice for taller users (typically 6 feet or above) or anyone who simply prefers more legroom for sleeping and stretching.

Yes. The UPbed Standard is designed for home use with a modern, stylish appearance — not the institutional look of a traditional hospital bed. It's also lighter and easier to move than most hospital beds, and includes amenities like a premium memory foam mattress and padded bed rails that hospital beds typically don't.

The UPbed is a bedding product and cannot be returned for hygiene reasons. However, if your bed arrives damaged or defective, Journey will repair or replace it at our option. Delivery is only available within the contiguous U.S.

Yes. Most Journey products, including the UPbed Standard, are eligible for reimbursement through FSA or HSA accounts. Journey does not diagnose, prescribe, or process insurance claims directly, but you can submit your purchase to your benefits provider for reimbursement.

Each UPbed Standard ships as a complete package including the motorized frame, a 6-inch memory foam mattress, deluxe padded bed rails, and an intuitive remote control. Just add your own pillows and sheets for a great night’s sleep.

Yes, the UPbed Standard uses standard Twin or Twin XL sheets and bedding, making it easy to find linens that fit perfectly.

The UPbed Standard includes a backup 9-volt battery that allows you to return the bed to a flat position in case of a power outage, ensuring your safety and peace of mind.

    Perfect for my mom

We were nervous purchasing this bed for my mom. But sure glad we did. She has a hard getting out of bed and this sure makes it a lot easier. The bed isn't as heavy as I thought it would be as we've been able to move it around just fine. We definitely recommend paying extra for the white glove delivers. The workers unpacked it and set it up for us. My mom said the bed and mattress is absolutely comfortable.

Bed Has Provided Tremendous Relief to My Elderly Mother

I purchased this bed for my mom who suffers from dementia. I wasn't sure if it would help her, but I was desperate. Her dementia prevented her from laying in a traditional bed. Being on a flat bed caused her to yell uncontrollably and pull out her hair. She would only sleep in a recliner put in the sitting upright position, which caused her legs to swell and to get very hard. She would also slide off the recliner if not monitored very closely. I got her a hospital bed, but that didn't work. On a whim, I googled sleep to stand beds. I wasn't sure if something like this even existed. My hope was to find a bed that worked like a recliner. I needed something that could allow her feet to touch the ground with the touch of a button, as that position was the only thing that appeared to calm her when her behavior was erratic. I also needed something that would allow her to elevate her legs so the swelling and hardness that developed from sleeping in a sitting position would go down. I have now had the bed for about two and a half months. The bed has contributed immensely to her quality of life. The swellling and hardness that developed from sleeping upright in her recliner has all but disappeared. When I sense that she is uncomfortable when her legs are elevated, I change the bed to a sitting upright position and that usually helps to calm her. I'm glad I took a chance and purchased the bed. Her physical therapist told me, it has contributed to some of the positive strides she's been…
