The right walking support should help you keep your eyes on where you are going and your legs free to move at a comfortable pace. UPWalker Premium Lite Gen 3 Rollator delivers a smooth, stable walking experience that lets you take back control of your movement. Designed with padded forearm support, four wheels, hand brakes, and a comfortable seat, the upright rollator's open-top design lets you sit without moving the personal item bag, while the frame easily folds for storage or travel.

If this is your first time using a rollator, or if you've upgraded to the Gen 3 from an earlier model, you'll want to know all about the special features that make this mobility device ideal for daily use at home or around town.

Quick Start Guide

Just purchased your new UPWalker Gen 3? Here's how to set it up quickly.

  1. Check the box and frame. On a level floor, unpack the frame, front wheels, two sit-to-stand handgrips, backrest, personal item bag, phone/cup holder, two arm pad covers, two motion-light chargers, and manual. Look for missing or damaged parts; do not use the walker if you find any. Record the model and serial numbers for future service.
  2. Install the handgrips and front wheels. Push each sit-to-stand handgrip into place until it clicks. Push each front wheel into the frame until you hear a distinct click. Check that both are secure.
  3. Lower and secure the rear wheels. Pull each rear wheel outward to release its magnet, lower it to the floor, then fasten the black square tab onto the hook-and-loop fastener on the back of the lower frame. Press firmly to secure the rear-wheel assembly.
  4. Open and lock the seat. Pull the armrests apart, then press the seat down firmly until it snaps into place. Do not sit unless you hear or feel it lock.
  5. Set the armrest height. Press the orange button inside each armrest, move the armrest to a comfortable height, and release the button so the pin engages. Set both sides equally. Raise each upper handgrip and turn its silver lever inward to lock it, as shown in the manual.
  6. Attach the backrest and accessories. Fit both ends of the backrest onto their frame tubes and tug gently to confirm they are secure. Hook the bag onto the left and right front seat tubes. Clamp the phone/cup holder to either armrest rail; fit the arm pad covers if desired. Charge and activate the two lights if you will use them.
  7. Test before walking. Make sure the seat, height locks, handgrips, rear wheels, and accessories are secure. Squeeze both hand brakes to check stopping, then press both brake handles down to confirm the parking brakes hold. Release them by squeezing inward slightly and letting go.

Understanding the Fit and Features

Instead of reaching down to conventional rollator handles, with the UPWalker Gen 3, you place your forearms on the adjustable padded armrests and hold the handgrips while walking. This arrangement makes it easier to maintain an upright posture. (The rollator is designed for people 4'10" to 6'1".) Be sure to set both armrests at the same height, with their locking pins fully engaged. Ask a physical therapist or other qualified clinician to help check the fit if you are unsure what height is right for you.

The handgrips and arm supports should feel comfortable without forcing your shoulders up or making you lean heavily forward or to one side. Avoid putting all your weight on one armrest: share your weight evenly between your arms and legs.

A Wider Seat for Easy Sitting

The 20-inch-wide, 9.6-inch-deep seat is 24 inches from the ground. Compared with the rollator's predecessor, the UPWalker Premium Lite V2, the Gen 3 adds two inches of seat width. Additionally, its personal item bag hangs toward the front of the seat, creating easier access for sitting when you want a break. The backrest provides support while resting; check that it is fully secured before leaning against it.

Brakes, Wheels, and Details for Daily Life

Two handbrakes help you slow down when moving and lock the walker in place when you stop. The generous 10-inch front and 8-inch rear wheels support indoor use and appropriate outdoor paths, but the rollator is not intended for stairs, escalators, steep grades, or uneven ground.

The Gen 3 also includes rechargeable motion lights with three modes, a combined phone/cup holder, removable front wheels, and sit-to-stand handgrips. Its folded width of 10.2 inches makes it easy to stash it almost anywhere, although you should always measure your intended storage or vehicle space first.

Using Your UPWalker in Everyday Life

The UPWalker Gen 3 rollator is pretty self-explanatory: You position yourself within the frame, place both hands on the handgrips and rest your forearms comfortably on the supports. Start at an easy walking pace, taking steps as you look ahead, and leave enough room to turn without catching a wheel on furniture or a doorway. Keep all four wheels on the ground. Gently squeeze both brake handles toward the handgrips to slow or stop; squeezing harder increases resistance and helps the rollator stop faster.

If you are outdoors, use the Gen 3 on firm, even ground, and take extra care at thresholds and changes in surface. Avoid inclines over 15% or diagonal slopes over 5% as these may destabilize the device. And of course, remember that the UPWalker is a walking aid and stationary rest seat: never ride on it or let someone push you while you are seated. It is for one user, not for passengers or carrying a person.

The device's two LED lights are helpful safety features when visibility is reduced, but they do not replace clear sightlines and a safe walking surface. Press the middle button on each light once to turn it on, press again to cycle through the three modes, and press and hold to switch it off. You can charge each light using the port on its underside and the supplied charging cable. Check the lights before an outing if you plan to use them.

Sitting Down and Standing Up Safely

When you want to take a break and rest for a minute, make sure you stop the Gen 3 on level ground. Press both brake handles downward until they click into the locked parking position. Check that the walker does not roll and that the seat is fully locked before sitting. Keep a firm hold of the handgrips as you position yourself and sit slowly. Avoid leaning all your weight onto one armrest or side of the frame.

Ready to get going again? Before standing, leave both parking brakes locked. Use the sit-to-stand handgrips for support as you rise; if standing feels difficult or unsafe, ask for assistance. Check your balance before starting to walk. To release the parking brakes, squeeze the brake handles inward slightly and let them return upright.

Always set the parking brakes before sitting, standing, or stepping away from the walker. And remember that a locked seat and locked brakes are separate checks. The seat click confirms that the seat is secured; pressing both brake handles down parks the walker.

Folding, Unfolding, and Taking the UPWalker Gen 3 Along

One of the most convenient features of the UPWalker Gen 3 rollator is how quick it is to set up, fold down, and transport it with you, wherever you are headed.

To fold:

  1. Remove the personal item bag from both front seat tubes.
  2. Lift the seat until it releases and bring the armrest pads inward toward one another.
  3. Undo the black square tab from the fastener at the back of the lower frame. Lift each rear wheel and swing it inward until the magnet holds it against the frame.
  4. Make sure the frame is fully folded and secure before moving it. The front wheels can be pulled away without tools if needed for transport; push them firmly back into place before the next use.

As you open the rollator for use, keep your fingers and loose clothing clear of the hinges. Make changes slowly, one side at a time. When lifting it, hold the frame with both hands, keep it close to your body, and ask for help if needed—at 22 pounds, it is light, but not weightless! Do not lift the rollator by the seat, armrests, handgrips, wheels, brake cables, or bag. The good news: On most surfaces, you should be able to roll the folded walker like a suitcase on all four wheels rather than carrying it.

To unfold:

  1. Pull the armrests apart.
  2. Lower both rear wheels to the floor. Reattach the black square tab to the rear hook-and-loop fastener and press it down firmly.
  3. Press the seat down until you hear or feel a click. Reattach the bag, if desired.
  4. Confirm that the wheels, seat, height locks, and brakes are ready before you walk or sit.

For a car trip, clear space in the trunk or backseat for your folded walker and secure it so it cannot shift, roll, or tip; do not pile heavy items on top. The FAA-compliant device should qualify for gate-checking during air travel, but always confirm the airline's rules and any size requirements before your trip.

Care and Troubleshooting

Before every outing, test both brakes; confirm that the armrest height pins, seat, handgrips, and rear wheels are secure; and make sure the frame opens and folds smoothly. If anything is loose, damaged, or difficult to operate, stop using the UPWalker and contact Journey or the distributor you purchased the device from.

Store the walker folded and secured in a clean, dry place where it will not create a tripping hazard. On a regular basis, inspect wheels for looseness, cracks, and wear, and clear away hair or debris. Examine hardware, brackets, and plastic components for bending, corrosion, dents, or cracks. Wipe the frame with a damp cloth and mild detergent and let it dry completely. After cleaning, apply a light coat of Teflon or silicone lubricant to a cloth and wipe the armrest height tubes, seat rails, and resistance dampers as directed in the manual.

Having trouble with your UPWalker Gen 3? These are some common concerns, and how to address them.

Concern Solution
The walker rolls when parked Make sure both brake handles are pressed down until they click. If either brake fails to hold or feels uneven, stop using the walker and contact Journey.
The armrest moves or will not lock Check that its height-adjustment pin is fully engaged and the silver lever is locked. Do not walk with a loose armrest.
The seat will not click into place Press it fully down again with fingers clear of the mechanism. Do not sit on it until it locks; ask for help if it still does not.
A wheel drags or wobbles Check for caught debris and confirm that detachable wheels are firmly seated. Stop using the walker if a wheel is loose or damaged.
A light will not come on Charge that light through the port underneath it and cycle the middle button. If it still fails, contact customer service for support.

The device comes with a lifetime frame warranty for the original consumer purchaser under normal use when purchased through Journey or an authorized dealer. Accessories and wear components, including wheels, brakes, seat, lights, handgrips, and armrests, are covered for six months. Coverage has exclusions, including unauthorized modifications, routine brake adjustments, misuse, and failure to follow instructions.
